Mahoba Station Makeover Under Scanner: DRM Inspection Highlights Gaps in Passenger Facilities
Amrit Bharat Scheme Promises Upgrade, But Ground Reality Still a Work in Progress
Mahoba: The redevelopment of Mahoba Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme came under close scrutiny on April 9, 2026, as Jhansi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Anirudh Kumar conducted a detailed inspection of the station and its facilities.
While the project aims to transform the station into a modern passenger-friendly hub, the inspection revealed that several basic amenities still require immediate attention.
The DRM began his visit at the Railway Health Centre, reviewing wards, the medicine room, and sanitation conditions. Stressing modernization, he directed officials to shift healthcare services to a fully digital system in a phased manner—an indication that even essential systems are yet to reach expected standards.
At the station premises, multiple issues related to passenger convenience surfaced. A drinking water booth located near the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) staircase was found poorly placed, prompting instructions for its relocation. The DRM also emphasized the need to ensure adequate water facilities specifically at spots where general coaches halt—areas that typically witness the highest passenger load but often the least attention.
With summer intensifying, the functioning of fans under platform sheds was flagged as a priority. The directive suggests that heat-management arrangements, critical for passenger comfort, are not yet fully reliable.
On the safety front, the DRM reviewed the CCTV control room and ordered the installation of additional cameras around the 12-meter-wide FOB to strengthen surveillance. However, the need for expansion itself highlights gaps in the existing monitoring system.
Concerns were not limited to passenger areas. In railway colonies, several dilapidated and unused quarters were identified, with instructions issued for their prompt demolition—pointing to long-pending maintenance issues within railway infrastructure.
The IRCTC-operated canteen also came under review, with clear directions to improve hygiene and service quality. Food facilities at smaller stations like Mahoba have often drawn criticism, and the latest inspection reinforces the need for stricter oversight.
Speaking to the media, DRM Anirudh Kumar outlined the ongoing development works but did not specify a clear timeline for completion or budget utilization—key details that remain crucial for assessing the project’s progress.
Officials present during the inspection included Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aman Verma and other railway staff.
Ground Reality Check: While the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme promises a significant upgrade, Mahoba station still appears to be in a transitional phase where announcements are ahead of execution. For passengers, real change will only be measured when basic facilities—clean water, functional fans, hygiene, and safety—consistently meet expectations, not just during inspections.
